چکیده

The development of visible emissions from an exploding mercury jet, which could be used as a unique high current opening switch, have been detailed. Framing pictures have verified that the expanding luminous front produced by the exploding jet maintains its cylindrical symmetry throughout the most intense period of visible emission. The luminous front expands at a constant rate of 5 x lo3 m/s over the z 300 ns interval during which the explosion occurs. Afterwards, the expansion rate is a nearly constant 1.5 x lo3 m/s. Consideration of the Bennett-pinch condition suggest that this velocity can be used to estimate an iouheutral temperature of 18000 K. Temperatures have been calculated from temporally and spatially resolved spectra. At the onset of the explosion, spectral emissions approximating blackbody radiation yielded a temperature of ~ 7 2 0 0 K. Line emissions were used to determine the radial temperature prome. Temperature measurements were used to estimate the percent ionization in the plasma column.

Switching and Scaling Behavior of an Exploding Mercury Jet

The feasibility of using an exploding mercury jet as a high current opening switch has been evaluated at peak currents ranging from 7 kA to 125 kA. To provide a more realistic measure of actual performance, a spark gap was used to switch peak currents into varying RL loads. The roles of magnetic pinching, ionization, and skin effects in determination of scaling behavior and reproducibility are ...

Investigating the Effect of Overflow Effects from Heat Sector of Iran on Greenhouse Gas Emissions; Application of Space Durbin Model

Issues related to environment are one of the most important issues that confront communities in recent decades.   Resource scarcity and the necessity of development for Iran and other similar countries requires us to deal with carbon dioxide emissions as a manifestation of environmental crisis. In this study, we assess the relationship between carbon dioxide emissions as a dependent variable wi...

Numerical Modeling of Saline Gravity Currents Using EARSM and Buoyant k- Turbulence Closures

Gravity currents are very common in nature and may appear in rivers, lakes, oceans, and the atmosphere. They are produced by the buoyant forces interacting between fluids of different densities and may introduce sediments and pollutants into water bodies. In this study, the hydrodynamics and propagation of gravity currents are investigated using WISE (Width Integrated Stratified Environments), ...

Heavy Metal Pollution from Dental Clinics–Part 1:Annual Emissions Assessment

This study aimed to evaluate the concentration of heavy metals in liquid effluents and to quantify the mercury content in dental amalgam waste generated by dental clinics. Three neighbouring cities in Northeast Algeria were considered in this study (Constantine, Skikda, and Annaba). Heavy metals, such as Hg, Cu, Zn, Fe, Ni, Mn, Cr, Cd, and Pb, were analysed in wastewater and then compared with ...
